Of course Level-5 could have prevented the big drop Yo-kai Watch experienced from 2 to 3 and then to 4 but in my opinion they were too slow in releasing Yo-kai Watch 3 the game released two years after 2 a timespan which, in the kid market, is ages. Market for kid-oriented IPs is very fast-paced as kids tend to move to the next big thing and as they grow they look for other experiences. ![]() Yu-gi-oh was selling 1.5m units on Game Boy Monster Farm, Love&Berry, MushiKing, Digimon (but that wasn't even that big in Japan to begin with), Mini 4WD, to name a few, all had enjoyed some popularity that eventually faded. Of course some of them keep some popularity but nowhere near the peak. ![]() Only a handful of IPs are able to survive many years with the same or comparable popularity of their peaks (Pokémon and Minecraft notably) but that is the exception, not the rule. Kid-oriented multimedia IPs tend to fade pretty quickly. ![]() To be fair, Yo-kai Watch was milked too slowly. During its prime, Yo-kai Watch IP was competing directly and beating Pokemon.
